Early stimulation and intervention

Early stimulation is given for high risk babies like who had a very bad post delivery period like prematurity, jaundice, infections, fits, breathlessness, respiratory support and need for oxygen. As prevention is always better than cure, such babies should always be assessed properly and stimulation started to prevent a developmental delay from occurring. For those whose brains are damaged, early stimulation helps them to at least partly overcome,  due to the plasticity of young brain.

Early intervention is given to those who have already developed some delay but still young enough to overcome it, if proper therapy is given. This is usually given for those with minor delays and <5 years of age.
